Aussie bound

Polished up and ready to sail.

The adventure for “the truck” started on 23/3 when it was due at the wharf to prepare for loading on a vessel bound for Port Kembla. Things didn’t quite go according to plan as when Al arrived at the gates to the wharf he was told that he couldn’t drive onto the wharf and a car transporter was needed to take the truck into the wharf area. Al had followed the instructions he was given but it seems that port requirements vary from week to week. He was allowed to drive through the gates, with hazard lights flashing, so he could turn around! When arranging the transporter he discovered he needed a “carters note” so he made a visit to our customs agent in Parnell to get the necessary piece of paper then went back down to the wharf to wait for the transporter. This wasn’t quite plain sailing as the intersection he was told to wait at wasn’t the same intersection as the transporter was waiting at.
After some time had passed the transporter driver discovered where he was and our truck was duly loaded. It then proceeded 40 metres down the street to the port gates and on through disappearing into the port area.It was reassuring to get a waybill from shipping company, a couple of days later, saying the truck had been loaded and was on it’s way.
